CHEETAHS

Built-for-speed, Cheetahs can reach 64 mph in three seconds and can maintain 75 mph for only short bursts. We saw two groups of Cheetahs on our trip - a pair of brothers and a group of four brothers.

We followed the four brothers for some time and witness them marking their territory. One of the youngsters decided to mark on a low-lying branch just as I focused on him ...

Always looking for an opportunity to eat, this one thought he heard something, but it amounted to nothing edible. We watched them for two days and never did see them make a kill.

They have such pretty faces with the two lines on either side of their noses .. we were traveling in safari vehicles and none of the animals posed a threat to us - most totally disregarded us as they would a tree or boulder. Many animals came within a foot or so of us - it was thrilling.

Here are the two brothers - we followed them through the brush for some time, hoping to see them make a kill - but they just walked then slept.
