WONDERFUL SOUTHERN AFRICA

PREFACE: The ladies who took this wonderful trip (also known as The 3 Old Broads Abroad and Jennifer) are me (Jennifer), my sister Paula, her good friend Mary and our old friend Babs. We're all English and have known each other for decades. We were equipped with the same duffel bags, same safari vests and similar safari pants so I dubbed us "THE INDIANA JANES" ... they seemed to like the 'old broads' moniker but I can't for the life of me figure out why!

We took a day trip to Zimbabwe to see the Victoria Falls (one mile wide) from that side - a better view. On our flight to Livingstone, the pilot kindly flew us over the falls so we got some spectacular photos. The water falls into a relatively narrow gorge and the gorge continues after the falls into an African Grand Canyon, if you will.

There has been a lot of rain there - more than usual - and the Zambezi River was very high and the falls were very thunderous. By the way, Zambezi is pronounced like an Italian word - Zam-Bay'-zee. You can click on these photos to get a larger view .. the spray rises up to 1,500' in the air - you can see it for miles.

Because of all the extra water and the spray, we were provided with blue ponchos and plastic bags for our cameras - the guide also had an umbrella - but with the water spray blowing up, down and sideways, we ended up completely soaked inside the ponchos and outside. This is the four of us in front of the statue of Dr. Livingstone ... I forget who, but someone named us the SMURFS! I can see why.
